Remy is an 11 month old female Bernese Mountain dog who found herself in a really scary situation. Remy was hit by a car and taken to the vet where it was discovered she had a broken front leg and a broken pelvis along with some minor cuts, scrapes and road rash. Dr Mazzola at Monument View Vet Clinic in Grand Junction reached out to Bernese Mountain Dog Club of the Rockies Rescue when Remy’s family were unable to manage her vet bills. Remy needed a big surgery to try and repair the fractured humerus so she was transported to Dr Respet and Sky Canyon Vet Hospital also in Grand Junction. Dr Respet did everything he could to save Remy’s leg placing screws and plates to hold everything together. We knew recovery was going to be difficult with a broken leg and pelvis but Remy’s attitude was so amazing during everything she had experienced and her tail never stopped wagging so we had to do everything possible to help her.
Unfortunately, less than 24 hrs after surgery the broken leg failed. First think Monday morning Remy went back to Dr Respet who took amazing care of her and performed another 3 1/2 hr surgery, this time amputating the leg as there was no good bone to secure more plates and screws to. Dr Respet and the team at Sky Canyon very generously donated the entire second surgery. Dr Mazzola and team at Monument View also discounted a lot of there services. Even with these fantastic discounts Remy’s vet bills are currently close to $6000. and she will still need lots of follow treatment. Please consider donating to Remy’s care. Remy will stay in foster care for at least 8 weeks while she learns to be a tri-pod and her pelvis fracture heals. Remy does have an Amazon wish list if you would like to contribute that way. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2PO1D3HX170TF...
Mental stimulation will be key to recovery and keeping her from getting bored.
